The El Geneina Agreement provides for the integration of the FNT forces into the national army or the Government administration, the recognition of the FNT as a political party, and “the creation of a joint commission charged with studying the fundamentals of the FNT charter and its applicability to Chad’s political structure and policies”. It also provides for a general amnesty and the return of refugees and IDPs.
The Abeche Agreement provides for civilian members of FNT to be integrated into the Chadian civil service and FNT’s armed forces to be integrated into the Chadian armed forces.
The 1997 National Reconciliation Agreement between the Chadian government and the FNT, FNTR, MJSD and CDR provides for the legalisation of the rebel movements and their transformation into political parties. The government also agrees to reinstate all civil servants, proclaim a general amnesty and facilitate the return of refugees.
