The Parties to the Declaration confirmed the need to take a stand against electoral violence, impunity and injustice as such acts are detrimental to the peace, welfare and sustained development of Malawi. The Parties agreed that ahead of and following the tripartite elections on 20 May 2014, they would forcefully speak out against violence and collaborate with the police service to allow them to discharge their duties. The Parties agreed to conduct their political campaigns in a manner that would not disrupt law and order, hold each other mutually accountable as peers, address electoral violence, impunity and injustice through collective leadership, commit to leading a process to reduce their occurrence in the short term and systemically eradicate it in the longer term.
